Looking for that perfect Christmas present for a sailor in the family — but don’t have much money? You could have a small sailboat for perhaps as little as $25. The Department of Defense is looking to offload eight escape sailboats currently stored at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and formerly used by the Navy for either training or for recreational purposes. The three-person sailboats, manufactured for the Navy by the Escape Sailboat Company, are being sold by the auction site, Government Liquidation, which contracts with the defense department to sell surplus assets.
