BUTLER, Ind., Jan. 08, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Several desks, file cabinets, and chairs, manufactured by historic furniture maker Steelcase, are currently for sale on the online auction marketplace AuctionDeals.com. The auctions consist of six Tanker desks, eighteen 5-drawer Tanker filing cabinets, and three Tanker office chairs.

Originally manufactured under the company name of the Metal Office Furniture Co., the Tanker desks were introduced in 1946 as a postwar desk that allowed for better space planning in open areas. The desks were considered indestructible industrial pieces because they were constructed of thick gauge steel and were the best-selling commercial desks in the world for several years.
In addition to desks and file cabinets, the Metal Office Furniture Co., later known as Steelcase, manufactured other items for office use. Desks, wastebaskets, and other furniture were made for many businesses, including furniture for the S.C. Johnson Wax Building in Racine, WI, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
Each desk is being auctioned separately and all are available for sale until January 23, 2019. The file cabinets and chairs are each being auctioned in lots of three and are also at auction until January 23, 2019. All auctions start at $1 USD but will only be sold once the undisclosed reserve price has been met.
The office furniture is being sold by Decker Services LLC. Decker is a family owned business who, like AuctionDeals, is committed to giving new life to unwanted or unused surplus assets. Charles Decker, President and Warehouse Manager, is excited to offer these desks and cabinets to “someone who will appreciate their beauty and history and will be able to put them to good use.”
Two of the Mid-century Steelcase Tanker desks are industrial green in color with an extra deep 60×36 inch top. Conditions are listed as fair, with all drawers being functional and intact.
Four of the Mid-century Steelcase Tanker desks are also in fair condition and industrial green in color, with a standard size top of 60×30 inches.
There are six separate auctions for the Mid-century Steelcase 5 Drawer Tanker file cabinets. Each auction includes three cabinets, each in fair condition with intact and functional drawers.
The Mid-century Steelcase Tanker Series Roller Office Task Chairs are being sold as a lot of three. The condition of the chairs is fair, with one chair needing repair where the cylinder attaches to the base.
