Government Liquidation to sell off USS Long Beach as scrap

Scottsdale-based Government Liquidation has been contracted to auction off the USS Long Beach, the U.S. Navy’s first nuclear-powered surface ship, which was decommissioned in 1994.

The ship will be auctioned to a single buyer in a sealed bid for its 7.35 million pounds of reusable base materials. Since the auction is sealed, bidders will have one chance to submit their best offer. The winner will only be known to the government and Government Liquidation. Since most of its materials are metals, bids tend to be based on current commodity prices.
