MCLB locomotives auction begins Monday night

Two locomotives once used by the United States Marine Corps for switching trains, transporting shipments and supporting units along the West Coast will be placed on the auction block Monday night. The announcement came from Government Liquidation — an online marketplace of surplus and scrap assets of the U.S. Department of Defense.

Since recently retired by the DoD, the two locomotives currently stored at the Marine Corps Logistics Base — a 100-ton GM Electro-Motive Locomotive, manufactured in 1983, and a 45-ton model, rebuilt in 1986 — remain in working condition, according to a Government Liquidation press release.
