Mississippi Department of Public Safety Launches Online Surplus Auction on GovDeals
Operational Airbus EC135 T2+ helicopter available to qualified bidders through September 15
JACKSON, Miss., Sept. 10, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Mississippi Department of Public Safety is conducting an online surplus auction on GovDeals, the leading online marketplace for government agencies and related organizations to sell surplus assets. The auction features a 2009 Airbus EC135 T2+ helicopter previously used for law enforcement and passenger transportation.
The helicopter is currently operational and has approximately 4,606 airframe and blade hours. It is powered by two Turbomeca 2B2 engines and has a maximum takeoff weight of 6,503 pounds. The aircraft also includes a Star Safire III camera system, searchlight, public-address equipment and a directional antenna that mounts to the skids. Aircraft logs are current and will be included for the winning bidder.
The helicopter received its most recent inspection in December 2025 and has accumulated approximately 23 flight hours since that inspection. Prospective buyers should carefully review the auction listing for information about upcoming maintenance, including an engine overhaul, gearbox work and an Electronic Engine Control Unit exchange or upgrade. The aircraft may be flown from the department’s location near Jackson before November 1, provided the successful buyer meets all requirements. After that date, the aircraft may need to be transported by truck if the required EECU work has not been completed.
Bidding is scheduled to close September 15, 2026, at 8:30 p.m. UTC. The auction is subject to seller approval and requires a $5,000 bid deposit, plus a $25 nonrefundable processing fee. A pilot certificate is required if the aircraft will be flown from the property. Test flights are not permitted, but inspections may be scheduled by appointment through the listing’s question-and-answer section.
Interested buyers can review photographs, maintenance documents, specifications and bidding requirements on the GovDeals auction page. The aircraft is offered as-is, where-is, and the buyer is responsible for removal arrangements. Bidders must create a free GovDeals account to participate.
